Liscensed Professional Counselor

Selecting a counselor can be a daunting process. It may take several introductions or meetings to find a comfortable fit. The client should be an active part of the process of determining a good fit. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor practicing in the state of Texas. My education includes a BA in Psychology from Stephen F. Austin State University and an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from University of Houston Clear Lake. My work experience in the mental health field includes various settings and populations such as inpatient, outpatient/private practice, psychosocial clubhouse, foster care, adoption/post adoption, and management of chronic pain.
The counseling theory I work from is a systems approach which views the individual from a micro to macro aspect. Micro meaning the individual has a unique experience within the context of their family of origin. Macro meaning we are shaped by our environment from our family of origin extending to our culture and society.
I feel it is important to consider all aspects of an individual’s functioning such as physical, spiritual, social, and emotional as part of the process of good mental health. Cognitive behavioral techniques are used consistently to affect change.
